In August 2013 Emma Straker an aspiring drama teacher; had a bad cold and sore throat which lasted 2 weeks.
Emma had been to the doctors and had antibiotics. After a week or so Emma started to feel a lot better and was back to her normal self. Emma started her 2nd year at Napier University and had moved in to a flat with her friends. Emma celebrated her 19th birthday on the 20th September 2013.
On the 1st October 2013 she went home for a family day, Emma was her usual self and had a great day out. The next day Emma was feeling a bit off and put this down to her cold returning.
On 3rd October 2013 Emma stayed home from university as she still felt unwell and spent the day in bed. Her flat mates kept an eye on her; taking her food and drinks. Emma was messaging friends through the day, text her mum and had a quick chat with dad.
Emma’s flat mates went to check on her the next morning and found Emma had died. Her cause of death was sepsis.
