The UK Sepsis Trust is taking a significant step forward in its commitment to digital inclusion by making the website fully accessible using the Recite Me Assistive Toolbar. This addition ensures that every website visitor – regardless of their individual needs – can browse, engage, and access our online content and life-saving messaging without barriers.

Inclusion and accessibility impact

With an estimated 1 in 4 people facing challenges online due to disabilities, learning differences, visual impairments, or language barriers, accessibility is no longer optional; it’s essential.

By implementing the Recite Me toolbar, UKST is ensuring our website is a place where everyone can access the information easily and confidently.

Key features of the Recite Me toolbar include:

  • Screen reading support: Assists visitors with visual impairments or cognitive differences.
  • Reading aids: Improve focus, comprehension, and retention.
  • Customisable styling: Users can adjust fonts, colours, and layouts to their preferences.
  • Translation and text-to-speech: On-demand translation into over 100 languages, including 65 text-to-speech voices, meaning non-native English speakers can fully engage with content.
A commitment to inclusion

Sarah Hamilton-Fairley, CEO at The UK Sepsis Trust, says: “Sepsis is a medical emergency that can affect anyone at any time with incredible speed. When every minute counts, barriers to potentially life-saving information simply cannot exist. Around 13 million people in the UK live with a disability that can make accessing digital content challenging, which means ensuring our messaging and resources are inclusive isn’t just a priority – it’s essential.

“We’re incredibly proud to have worked with Recite Me to launch this toolbar, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on our community.”

Ross Linnett, Founder and CEO of Recite Me, added: It’s inspiring to see the UK Sepsis Trust leading by example in supporting online visitors. The internet should be for everyone, and by providing  assistive tools online, they’re helping to create a more inclusive digital world where nobody is left behind.”

The new assistive tool is available on all devices. You can access it by clicking the accessibility icon in the bottom right-hand corner of your screen; from there, you can personalise your online journey to suit your individual needs. The tool also works a number of our PDF resources.*

*Please note, this will only work when viewing certain PDFs via our website. Recite Me will not launch if you download a resource to your personal device
