Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE)

Get involved in sepsis research.

WHAT IS PPIE?

Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) is where research organisations and people with lived experience work together to share ideas, stories, and perspectives to shape and strengthen research. PPIE plays a vital role in ensuring research into sepsis and sepsis care makes a lasting, positive difference.

This could include planning, evaluating, designing, or communicating research.

RESEARCH ORGANISATIONS

As a research organisation, you can work with people affected by sepsis at different stages of the research process. This could include:

  • Identifying research priorities and questions.
  • Developing and designing research studies.
  • Reviewing participant information and recruitment materials.
  • Helping to interpret findings.
  • Sharing research results with the wider community.

Patient and public contributors

If you have lived experience of sepsis, you can become a contributor and help shape sepsis research by sharing your views, insights and ideas.

By taking part, you’ll have the opportunity to share your experiences and have your voice heard by researchers, helping to ensure that research reflects the needs of patients, carers and families.

How you get involved is up to you – we’ll make sure to match you with any opportunities that align with your interests, availability, and circumstances.

Protect your wellbeing

Sharing your experience of sepsis can be rewarding, but it can also bring back difficult memories or emotions.

Your wellbeing should always come first, so it’s completely okay to set boundaries or take a step back if it doesn’t feel right for you.

We have guidance available to help you look after your wellbeing before, during and after PPIE research.
