UKST launches new programme to strengthen sepsis care in acute health and care settings

2 February 2026
The UK Sepsis Trust has launched a new national learning programme designed to help hospitals build in-house expertise in sepsis care and improve frontline clinical practice.

Train the Trainer expands UKST’s established education offering by enabling acute hospitals to develop their own qualified sepsis trainers, embedding practical, up-to-date sepsis management skills within clinical teams.

Developed for medical professionals working in acute health and care settings, the programme addresses a long-recognised gap by focusing on the real-world application of sepsis recognition and management. The training incorporates newly developed materials created by UKST Founder Dr Ron Daniels BEM and the Trust’s clinical team, aligned with and adhering to the latest NICE guidelines.

By equipping hospitals and other care settings to deliver consistent, evidence-based sepsis education internally, Train the Trainer aims to support earlier recognition, faster treatment and improved outcomes for patients with sepsis.

From high demand to low resource, health professionals are facing an increasing number of challenges, which means it’s more important than ever for health professionals to equip themselves – and their colleagues – to deliver high quality education, at scale, internally.

Who is Train the Trainer for?

Train the Trainer is ideal for anyone working in an acute setting, and will be delivered by a UKST-accredited senior health professional.  It is CPD certified, so anyone taking the course will receive CPD hours, and any staff member that delegates go on to train in their own organisation will also benefit from CPD hours.

What does Train the Trainer cover?

The programme covers:

  • Introduction to Sepsis
  • The Burden of Sepsis
  • The Principles of Sepsis
  • A Case Study
  • Defining Sepsis
  • The Pathophysiology of Sepsis
  • The Sepsis 6
  • Post Sepsis Syndrome

Dr Ron Daniels BEM, Founder and Chief Medical Officer of the UK Sepsis Trust, said: “We know that health professionals are facing an unprecedented number of challenges, and that expectations around complex and invasive therapies in an ageing population continue to rise. That is why we have developed this programme: to empower clinicians to educate themselves and their colleagues in the recognition and management of sepsis by ensuring that health provider organisations can grow their own team of trainers.

“At UKST, we work very closely with NICE to ensure that our resources reflect the latest evidence-based guidance, and this CPD-accredited programme is directly aligned with their very latest guidance. We are confident that this will make a significant difference and save thousands of lives.”

The programme is available to hospitals at a cost of £495 + VAT, which covers up to three participants. A limited number of additional places are available at an additional cost, allowing up to five staff members per cohort. Keeping group sizes small ensures participants have ample opportunity to engage directly and ask questions throughout the course.
