RECOVERY AFTER SEPSIS

Understand what sepsis is and learn helpful tips and strategies to support your recovery.
What actually is sepsis and what does recovery look like?

Every year, sepsis affects an estimated 245,000 people in the UK. It’s a life-threatening condition that arises when the body’s response to an infection injures its own tissues and organs, and it can happen to anyone, at anytime.

And life after sepsis often isn’t straightforward. Many sepsis survivors can find their recovery challenging after they leave hospital – in fact, around 40% of people who develop sepsis are likely to experience cognitive, physical, and/or psychological aftereffects.

Recovery looks different for everyone. For some, symptoms can last few a weeks. For others, months – or maybe even longer. But you’re not alone.

This session is designed for people who have recently had sepsis and are in the early stages of recovery and for those who may be supporting a loved one on their journey.

Hosted by UKST’s Lead Support Nurse, Oliver, this session will cover

  • What sepsis is
  • Why some people experience problems following sepsis
  • Common challenges people may encounter during recovery
  • Top tips
